What we do
MZ-TECH provides training, and technical support and participates in meetings of healthcare facilities committees to reduce the risk of mortality from advanced HIV disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that one in three people living with HIV (PLHIV) who are in care have advanced disease and are at high risk of death from serious illness (advanced disease).
The mortality rate for patients with advanced disease ranges from 25% to 50%. In one-third of these cases, mortality occurs within the first 48 hours of hospitalization.Another 20% die in the outpatient setting after discharge and about 30% are readmitted to the hospital soon after discharge because their condition has worsened or new serious conditions have developed.
In order to reduce the risk of mortality in this group of patients (due to advanced disease), the implementation of a comprehensive clinical care package is recommended.
